Vertical Slurry Pump

Vertical Slurry Pump

In applications involving the conveyance of solids and liquids where immersion in liquid is required, space is limited, or special foundation requirements exist, vertical slurry pumps can handle various types of mud. They are widely used in mineral processing, coal preparation, wastewater treatment, sand and gravel processing, and chemical processes. With its unique structural design, vertical slurry pumps offer an efficient, space-saving solution.

Product Definition and Key Features

The vertical slurry pump is a centrifugal slurry pump with its shaft arranged vertically to the ground. Its most distinctive feature is that the motor is located above the pump casing while the suction end (impeller part)is submerged in a slurry pool, slurry tank, or pit.

This design provides the following core features:

Submerged Operation

Installed directly underwater, it requires no priming, facilitates easy startup, and effectively prevents pump cavitation.

Space-saving

Requires small space and doesn't require complex suction pipes and bottom valves, making it particularly suitable for installation in compact pits, pools or tanks.

Flexible installation

Can be fixed to the tank bottom or mounted cantilevered from the tank top using a support bracket, adapting to varying depths and operating environments.

No Risk of Leakage

Since the pump casing is immersed in the medium, the pressure at the shaft seal (or in seal-less designs) is lower than ambient atmospheric pressure, which fundamentally avoids outward splashing leakage of the medium and offers superior environmental performance.

Structural and Technical Innovation

To meet the challenges of vertical installation and submersible operation, the vertical slurry pump has undergone specialized structural optimization:

Extended Shaft Design

The submersion depth can reach up to 3 meters. The shaft possesses sufficient rigidity and strength to prevent radial oscillation during long-distance power transmission, ensuring stable operation.

Submerged Wear-Resistant parts

Flow parts immersed in the medium (impeller, pump casing/volute liner) are also made of high-chromium alloy, rubber lining, or other advanced wear-resistant materials to withstand abrasion from solid particles. Different material combinations can be selected based on the characteristics of the medium.

Diverse drive options

Can be directly coupled with a standard vertical motor or driven via a pulley system to meet various speed and power requirements.

Application Fields

Circulation and conveyance in various slurry tanks

Such as agitation tanks in mineral processing plants, underflow conveyance in thickening tanks, slurry tanks in desulfurization systems, and feed and circulation in reactors within chemical processes.

01

Pit drainage and dredging

Hydraulic ash removal in power plants; drainage of mine tunnels; removal and conveyance of slurry from sump pits, sedimentation tanks, and underground sewage tanks.

02

Desulfurization system slurry tanks

03

Environmental protection and wastewater treatment

Conveyance of wastewater and sludge containing solid impurities.

How to Select?

Submersion Depth

Determine the pump's installation depth (i.e., "submerged length"), which is a key parameter for determining shaft length and pump selection.

01

Medium Characteristics

Particle size, concentration, specific gravity, and corrosiveness of solid particles directly influence material selection (metal or rubber).

02

Operating Parameters

Flow rate, head, and operating temperature.

03

Installation Method

Fixed, cantilever, or mobile.

04

Wear Resistance and Maintenance

Evaluate the service life of wear parts and the ease of maintenance, particularly whether submersed components are easily accessible for repair.

Comparison with Horizontal Slurry Pumps

  • Installation Space: Vertical pumps need less space and are suitable for tanks and pits; horizontal pumps require a horizontal foundation and occupy more space.
  • Start-up Method: Vertical pumps are submerged and do not require priming; horizontal pumps typically require priming or a vacuum system.
  • Leakage Control: Vertical pumps have a lower risk of leakage; the shaft seal in horizontal pumps is a potential leakage point and requires special attention.

Vertical slurry pumps are the ideal choice for vertical space utilization and submerged applications. They perfectly solve installation, leakage, and startup challenges in specific environments.
