Key Functions

Protective Function

Acting as a replaceable "lining" for the inner wall of the pump casing, it directly withstands the impact, friction, and erosion caused by high-speed flowing solid particles (slurry, sand, ore slurry, etc.). It protects the expensive pump casing from wear and tear.

Flow Path Formation

Together with the impeller, Frame Plate Liner Insert, and other parts, it forms a specific fluid passage (volute) from the impeller outlet to the pump discharge, guiding the slurry to merge and flow out smoothly with minimal energy loss.

 

Structural Location

 

  • Installation Location: Located on the suction side (inlet end) of the pump, directly adjacent to the front cover plate of the impeller. It forms the chamber wall between the front of the impeller and the pump casing.
  • Relationship with the impeller: There is a very small clearance between its inner bore and the impeller inlet (typically precisely controlled by adjusting the bearing assembly) to prevent friction between the impeller and the throatbush while minimizing the backflow of slurry from the high-pressure zone to the low-pressure zone, thereby maintaining pump efficiency.

Since it is directly subjected to severe wear, the material must possess extremely high wear resistance and a certain degree of corrosion resistance. Common materials include:

Wear and Maintenance

Wear Parts

These are flow-through components prone to wear. Wear causes the clearance between them and the impeller to increase, resulting in reduced pump flow rate and head, decreased efficiency, and increased energy consumption. They must be replaced regularly.

Carefully adjust the axial clearance between the impeller and the throatbush and the Frame Plate Liner Insert to the design value; this is a critical step in installation.

Signs of Wear

When wear reaches a certain level (e.g., the clearance exceeds the original value by more than double) or perforations appear, replacement is mandatory.

Replace in Pairs

To maintain flow path balance and pump performance, it is generally recommended to replace the throatbush and the Frame Plate Liner Insert simultaneously.
